About San Juan de los Terreros.
With an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, this region has arguably the best climate in Spain. It's an ideal all year-round location with temperatures of about 32-36 Celsius degrees in the summer, and 14-16 Celsius degrees in the winter.
San Juan de los Terreros known also as Terreros is, together with Águilas (Costa Cálida), the natural border between Andalusia and Murcia, and offers to locals, holidaymakers and visitors beautiful, gently shelving and sandy beaches which stretches right around the bay making it safe for swimming and children.
Along the coast, in either direction there are a host of other bays and beaches to explore and the views of the beautiful bay and surrounding mountains are spectacular from the rocky headland its 18th century castle.
Terreros is a typical Spanish resort, quiet for most of the year but comes alive in the summer months; there are a handful of good beach bars along the promenade and in the main street there are a number of bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from, two well stocked supermarkets catering for most nationalities. The village offers also medical centre and from June until September there is a weekly market selling clothes, shoes, fruit and vegetables plus a night market in the main square and all year round the weekly market is on Sunday.
And last, but no least, from August 2019, you can visit here The Pulpí Geode, also known as the Giant Geode; the second of the largest crystal caves ever found, (the largest one is located in Mexico but due to its depth and temperature, impossible to visit) and is the largest accessible geode in the world.
A geode is a void formed from an air bubble inside volcanic, metamorphic or sedimentary rock. It is filled with crystals formed from mineral deposits.
The Giant Geode measures 8 metres long by 2 metres high, and is covered with huge translucent gypsum crystals up to 2 metres in length. The transparency, size and state of preservation of this geode make it unique.
Eleven kilometres from San Juan de los Terreros is the town of Águilas, famous for its Mardi Gras Carnival (one of the biggest in Spain and declared “Fiesta” of international interest.) Here you have many good valued cafes, bars, excellent restaurants and two great discotheques. You can spend an evening in the beautiful plaza enjoying a drink or an ice cream. It’s here where you can board the party boat and try various water sports from the new Mariner.
